Polygon Selection
The Polygon Select tool creates selections by clicking to place vertices, forming a custom polygon shape. Unlike the Lasso tool which uses freehand drawing, the polygon tool gives you precise control over each vertex.
Basic Usage
Select the Polygon Select tool from the selection tools menu. Click on the canvas to place vertices one at a time. Each click adds a new point to the polygon.
- Press Enter to confirm and create the selection. A polygon needs at least three vertices, otherwise there is nothing to confirm
- Press Escor Ctrl+D to cancel and discard the polygon
- Switching to another tool confirms the polygon as it stands
Modifiers
- Shift — Add to existing selection
- Altor Right Click — Subtract from existing selection
- Shift+Altor Shift+Right Click — Intersect with existing selection
Live Preview
As you place vertices, a real-time preview shows the polygon shape with high-contrast visualization. The preview updates with each new vertex and follows your cursor to show where the next edge will go.
Tips
- The Polygon tool is ideal for selecting areas with straight edges that don't fit a simple rectangle or ellipse.
- For freehand selections, use the Lasso tool instead.
- Zoom in for more precise vertex placement.
- Drag inside an existing selection to move the selected content; hold Ctrl while dragging to reposition just the marquee without affecting pixels.
