Pan Tool

Shortcut: Spaceor Middle Click

The Pan tool moves your view around the focused file's canvas. Use it to reach different parts of your sprite when you're zoomed in past what fits on screen.

Basic Usage

  • Press Spaceor Middle Click to select the tool, then click and drag to move the view.
  • Hold Spaceor Middle Click while another tool is active to pan temporarily — releasing the key returns to the previous tool.

Panning only moves the camera. It does not change file positions, the active layer, or any pixels.

Alternative Ways to Pan

You rarely need to switch to the Pan tool explicitly. These shortcuts work from any tool:

  • Middle-mouse drag — Pan regardless of the active tool
  • Two-finger drag — On a touchscreen or tablet, drag with two fingers to pan. A mouse wheel or trackpad scroll zooms instead

Pan and Zoom Together

Pan works in combination with zoom to frame your work quickly:

  • Ctrl+0 — Fit the focused file to the viewport (also resets any view rotation or flip)
  • Scroll wheel — Zoom in and out at the cursor position

Tips

  • For quick navigation between files, use the Files panel instead of panning manually.
  • If you lose track of your work, press Ctrl+0 to fit the focused file back into view.
  • The Pan tool does not commit to history — panning has no undo because nothing has changed.
