Frequently Asked Questions

What is color reduction?

Color reduction limits the number of unique colors in an image. This is useful for creating retro-style graphics, optimizing file sizes, or matching specific palette constraints.

When should I use dithering?

None: For pixel art with solid colors.
Floyd-Steinberg: For photos or images with gradients.
Ordered: For a retro/stylized dithering pattern.

Why do my colors look different?

The tool picks the reduced palette from colors already in your image, choosing the ones that best represent it. If the image already has no more colors than you ask for, it comes back unchanged.
