Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit an existing .cur or .ani file?
Yes. Drop a .cur, .ico or .ani file on the upload zone. The cursor maker opens its largest image, keeps the hotspot stored in the file and selects the sizes it already contains, so you can move the hotspot or change the sizes and download a new .cur. For an animated .ani cursor, only the first frame is edited and the download is a still .cur.
What is the cursor hotspot?
The hotspot is the exact pixel that represents the "click point" of the cursor. For a crosshair cursor, the hotspot is at the center. For an arrow, it is at the tip.
What sizes should I include?
32x32 is the standard cursor size. Include 16x16 for smaller displays and 48x48 or 64x64 for high-DPI screens. The image will be resized with nearest-neighbor scaling.
How do I use the .cur file?
On Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings, go to the Pointers tab, pick a pointer, click Browse, and select your .cur file. For web use, reference it in CSS with cursor: url(mycursor.cur), auto;.
