Frequently Asked Questions
Why not just rename a PNG to .cur?
Renaming won't work — CUR files pack a directory of sizes plus a hotspot coordinate into the binary format. This tool builds a real CUR file from your PNG's pixels.
What is the cursor hotspot?
The hotspot is the exact pixel that registers clicks. For an arrow cursor it's the tip; for a crosshair it's the center. Drag the sliders or use a preset to set it.
What happens if my PNG is larger than 256×256?
Windows cursors max out at 256×256, so larger source images are automatically scaled down before the cursor sizes are cut from them. No manual resizing needed.
How do I install the CUR file on Windows?
Right-click the downloaded file and choose "Install", or set it manually under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings > Pointers.
